What are the types of primary care providers?

Primary care comprises four areas. After completing their medical studies, doctors can specialize in one or more of these areas. They include:

Internal medicine

Internal medicine doctors treat only adults.

Pediatric medicine

Pediatricians treat all children from birth to around 18 years old.

Family medicine

A family medicine doctor treats the entire family, from children through seniors.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN)

An OB/GYN provides women’s reproductive health and family planning services.
